TradeName : Rocaltrol

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Calcitriol is responsible for promoting proper absorption and use of calcium and phosphate in normal bone development and maintenance.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Avoid using calcitriol if you are allergic to ingredients in Calcitriol and have high levels of vitamin D or calcium in the blood

Missed a Dose? :

If you miss a pill of Calcitriol , take it immediately and skip the missed dose and take your regular dose

How it should be taken
: • Do not take magnesium containing antacids with Calcitriol which can reduce the effects of Calcitriol.

Special Instruction :
• Calcitriol can cause drowsiness which may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. • The risk of high blood calcium levels may be increased with patients using calcitriol. • Calcitriol should be used with extreme caution in childrens who are on dialysis. •Avoid breastfeeding while taking Calcitriol .

Side Effects :

Allergic reactions like difficulty in breathing, bone pain, constipation, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, drowsiness, dry mouth, muscle pain, nausea, runny nose, weakness were observed on patients taking Calcitriol.

Drug Interactions :
Avoid using antacids without your doctor's prescription. Antacids contain different minerals can cause side effects if used with Calcitriol. Drugs like digoxin, cholestyramine, sevelamer, ketoconazole, lanthanum, seizure medication such as phenytoin steroids such as prednisone, fluticasone, mometasone, dexamethasone can cause drug interaction with calcitriol.

Storage Conditions :

Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
